The U.S. Embassy in Russia has issued a
Level 4 travel advisory, advising U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to the country. This advisory comes in response to Friday’s attack in a
concert hall in a Moscow suburb, which resulted in the deaths of at least 40 people. U.S. citizens have been asked to follow instructions of local authorities.
According to Russia’s Federal Security Service, a group of armed gun stormed the Crocus City Hall Friday night and opened fire. Videos circulating on the internet showed the
gunmen chasing people and firing at them point blank. As a precautionary measure, shopping malls in Moscow and St. Petersburg were shut down. All public events scheduled this weekend have also been canceled. According to local reports, the incident also resulted in social media outages across the country, with users unable to access to Telegram and Vkontakte.

“The Embassy is aware of reports of an ongoing terrorist incident at Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow.
U.S. citizens should avoid the area and follow instructions of local authorities.
The U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Russia is severely limited, particularly in areas far from the U.S. embassy in Moscow, due to Russian government limitations on travel for U.S. embassy personnel and staffing, and the ongoing suspension of operations, including consular services, at U.S. consulates in Russia.
At this time, U.S. citizens are advised not to travel to Russia. More information on the State Department’s Level 4 Travel Advisory (Do Not Travel) can be found on travel.state.gov.”
