The former head coach of the Russian national freestyle wrestling team was called to the national team by some countries, but Dzambolat Tedeev refused all of them, the reason he gave during the interview
“ There were invitations from China, from England, from America, from Azerbaijan, from Saudi Arabia, but I can say one thing. When you are more than 20 years in the status of head coach, purely and morally I can not, because I did not work for money, I lived it, I gave my heart and soul. I am attached to my homeland, and I want to stay with my mom, in South Ossetia. If my father and brother were alive, maybe the situation would be different” – Tedeev’s words to SVD Podcast interview
Dzambolat Tedeev was fired as head coach of the Russian national freestyle wrestling team on October 27th, 2022.
“By deciding not to renew my contract with me, the president of the Russian Wrestling Federation is guided by far from common sense, putting his personal interest above the interests of athletes and the state. I believe that this is the first precedent in the history of Russian sports, when a coach who consistently brings the national team to high results is fired”. – Excerpt from Tedeev’s open letter
