A failure occurred at the Rostov NPP due to high loads. The Ministry of Energy informs about the restriction of consumption in the south of the country.
“In the energy system of the south of Russia, due to a malfunction of the generating equipment at the Rostov NPP, in conditions of increased loads on the energy system, temporary schedules for limiting consumption by 1.5 GW have been introduced in order to maintain the stability of the energy system,” the Russian Ministry of Energy reports.
The ministry did not provide details, but assured that the restoration work remains under special control of the Russian Ministry of Energy until the power supply is fully restored.
According to the latest data from the System Operator of the Unified Energy System of Russia, from 14.00 to 15.00 on July 16, the own generation of the south of Russia amounted to 17.2 GWh, and consumption – 18.8 GWh. The difference was supplied from other zones of the energy system — the “Middle Volga” and the “Center”.
As reported by EADaily, due to the abnormal heat, the demand for electricity for air conditioning in the south of Russia has increased sharply, at the same time, the network equipment cannot withstand. Last week, 600 thousand people were without electricity at the same time in the south of the country. In part, the outages were also related to capacity limitations, since one unit of the Rostov NPP and the CHP and GRES units are under repair.
