Round 7 of the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships (under 14, 16, 18 years old, Open and Girls) is over in Florianopolis, Brazil.
The tournament rest day of 4 November saw the 1st World Youth Chess Solving Championship. Russian players took six medals. Nikita Kalinin became the champion in the open U16 group. Diana Preobrazhenskaya won silver in the G14 group, Aleksey Prokhorov (open U14), Leila Tabermakova (girls U16), and Olga Karmanova (girls U18) took third places in their age groups.
There also took place an open blitz tournament, which was won by the Russian Erdem Khubukshanov, while Mariya Vlasova was first among the girls.

Going into Round 8, Edgar Mamedov (Kazakhstan) and Dinh Nho Kiet (Vietnam) are sharing 6 points in the open U14 group. Svyatoslav Lisenkov is one point behind the leaders. In the girls’ section, Kesaria Mgeladze (Georgia), Nilufarkhon Imomkuzieva (Uzbekistan), Zhao Yunqing (China), and Diana Khafizova of Russia have got 6 points each.
Javier Habans Aguerrea (Spain) is leading the race in the open U16 event with 6.5 points under his belt. Nikita Kalinin is trailing by 1 point. In the U16 girls’ category, Afruza Hamdamova (Uzbekistan) is in the lead with 6.5 points. Leila Tabermakova has scored 6 points.
Aleksey Grebnev is in the unshared lead of the open U18 tournament with 6 points. Galina Mikheeva and Olga Karmanova have both got 6 points in the respective girls’ group.
Round eight is scheduled on Wednesday, 6 November, starting at 9 PM Moscow time.
