The decision on the participation of Russian wrestlers in the Olympic Games in Paris has not yet been made, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told RIA Novosti.
Athletes of the national team won 16 out of 18 possible licenses for the Games – six in freestyle wrestling, five each in Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling. In Paris, by IOC decision, the Russians will be able to compete in a neutral status, but their compliance with the necessary criteria must be assessed by a special IOC commission consisting of three people.
“The decision on participation in the Olympic Games in Paris has not been made yet. It will be done after we receive (from the IOC) full information on the conditions of participation of our athletes, specialists and coaches. I don’t know when it will be known, it’s been dragging on for a month and a half, we are being fed with promises day after day,” Mamiashvili said.
The head of the FSBR noted that there is no information on the participation in the Games of two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulaev. Earlier the IOC did not allow the athlete to the qualification tournament, which was held in Baku on April 5-7.
