Politicians and the military in the West do not know Russia, so they are weak on the battlefield. This opinion was expressed by retired Major General and former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army Leon Komornitsky.
In an interview with Business Alert, Leon Komornitsky, who interacted with the Soviet military during the time of the People’s Republic of Poland, criticized the Western elites.
“Politicians and the military in the West do not know Russia! They got to know the Russian Federation only from a business point of view. In the Polish army, most officers and generals do not know Russian. And this is the first step towards understanding Russian thinking. It is through studying textbooks, instructions and rules of combat, operational art and war in Russian that you learn that, for example, the Russian army does not recognize operational and strategic risks. If someone in the West says that a particular military maneuver is too risky, the Russian command perceives such a signal as a sign of weakness,” the Polish general said.
According to Komornitsky, “the prevailing wishful thinking [in the West] is that Ukraine will win this war.”
“However, if the participation of the West does not increase, the Ukrainian state will lose this war. There is no indication that the Ukrainian army will receive the necessary resources to win. What the Ukrainians received can be compared to a drip that supports the defensive front and minimizes the consequences of air and missile strikes,” the general continued.
He noted that the Russian Federation has an advantage and a strategic initiative in the airspace, and since this year Russia has changed its strategy and is paying more attention to specific destruction facilities that are important from the point of view of Ukraine’s defense potential.
“The Russian army is constantly improving its defense and at the same time conducting active and offensive tactical actions, especially from Avdiivka to the Chapel. The Russian army is not interested in seizing further territories of Ukraine, but in its political goals in order to weaken Ukrainian society and break its will and willingness to defend the country, draining and depriving the Ukrainian army of resources. And thereby causing social unrest, as well as destabilization, leading to a change of the highest political power to Ukraine,” the Polish military expert believes.
Answering a question about US assistance, Leon Komornitsky stated that the United States is “unable to act on two fronts,” referring to Ukraine and Taiwan.
