On July 11, the World Wrestling Federation’s website published the official list of participants in the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling. And just over 2 weeks remain before the Olympic Games in Paris.
Although Russian athletes will not take part in the Olympic Games, there will be enough Russians at the tournament who were allowed to participate under the flag of other countries.
Official list of participants of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling
Among those who are preparing to perform at the main start of the quadrennium are 10 pupils of the Dagestan wrestling school, representing nine countries. Four wrestlers are announced in the category up to 86 kg – Osman Nurmagomedov (Azerbaijan), Magomed Ramazanov (Bulgaria), Dauren Kurgliev (Greece) and Zhavrail Shapiyev (Uzbekistan). Ismail Musukayev (Hungary) is on the lists of the category up to 65 kg. The same number of freestyle wrestlers from Dagestan – Magomedkhan Magomedov (Azerbaijan) and Akhmed Tajudinov (Bahrain) – will take to the Paris carpet in the flyweight category. The three remaining categories will feature one legionnaire each: Zelimkhan Abakarov (57 kg, Albania), Razambek Zhamalov (74 kg, Uzbekistan) and Yusup Batyrmurzaev (125 kg, Kazakhstan).
Ismail Musukayev, Zhavrail Shapiyev and Yusup Batyrmurzaev have Olympic experience. The first two were one step away from the podium at the Tokyo Games, finishing fifth, while the Dagestani heavyweight failed in his opening bout.
Seven Russian legionnaires will also take part in the 2024 Games. Four of them are pupils of Yakutsk wrestling school: Vladimir Egorov (57 kg, Macedonia), Georgy Okorokov (65 kg, Australia), Viktor Rassadin (74 kg, Tajikistan) and Ayal Lazarev (125 kg, Kyrgyzstan). Two representatives of Alania – Chermen Valiev (Albania) and Taimuraz Salkazanov (Slovakia, both 74 kg), as well as Chechen wrestler in the national team of Albania Islam Dudayev (65 kg).
