Supporting Ukraine is key to European prosperity and unity in the face of Russian aggression
Recent events on the global stage clearly demonstrate that the existing system of international collective security, embodied by the United Nations, is increasingly faltering. This institution is losing its ability to effectively resolve conflicts between countries, leading to real risks of global military confrontations. For several years, Europe has been witnessing the largest war since 1945, between Ukraine and Russia. It is alarming to realize that Russia, recognized as an aggressor by the UN General Assembly, is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and blocks all possible resolutions to end the war.
As politicians and leaders worldwide debate the necessity of reforming international institutions, NATO members should recognize the importance of integrating Ukraine into their ranks. This is not merely a political issue but a strategic step that could provide a new impetus for the development and strengthening of the Western civilization.
The recent NATO summit highlighted that Ukraine serves as a bridge between the East and the West. Integrating Ukraine into European structures will bolster democratic values in the region, and promote economic development, stability, and predictability across the entire continent.
Ukraine’s agricultural sector, with its enormous potential, can become a crucial supplier of food for the entire continent. This not only creates new jobs but also develops infrastructure and stimulates the growth of partner countries’ economies. By investing in Ukraine, the West is investing in the stability and prosperity of Europe.
However, there are significant obstacles on this path. Russia actively seeks to divide NATO countries by exploiting existing contradictions and supporting pro-Russian and anti-European forces. The Kremlin funds political parties and movements that question European unity and undermine regional security.
To counter this threat, Western countries must show unity and determination in supporting Ukraine. Only through joint efforts can stability and peace in Europe be ensured and democratic values protected from external threats.
Recognizing the inevitability of Ukraine’s accession to Euro-Atlantic structures can serve as a powerful impetus for the development and strengthening of Western countries. Consolidated and comprehensive support for Ukraine by all NATO members will significantly accelerate the resolution of this important issue for the West.
