Trump reportedly has a ‘secret’ peace plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war. According to a report by the Washington Post, the plan involves Ukraine ceding seized land by Russia in Crimea and the Donbas region. The former president’s campaign team has dismissed the report, calling it “speculation.”
The plan, anonymous sources cited in the report told the Post, will be a complete change from the Biden-administration’s stance of providing its crucial ally with military and other aid in the face of aggression from Russia. The sources cited in the report claimed that the topic was discussed with Trump in a highly confidential meeting and where the former president reportedly claimed that he will end the war in weeks if he assumes office at White House following the 2024 presidential elections.
Trump has reportedly expressed the belief that both Russia and Ukraine desire an exit strategy while wanting to ‘save face’. He thinks that some residents in certain Ukrainian regions would not object to becoming part of Russia, the source claimed.
“Any speculation about President Trump’s plan is coming from unnamed and uninformed sources who have no idea what is going on or what will happen,” Trump’s campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said, adding, “President Trump is the only one talking about stopping the killing.”
The former president had also earlier claimed that if he were the president, the Russia-Ukraine war would never have happened.
“If I were president, the Russia-Ukraine war would never have happened… never in a million years,” the former president was seen proclaiming in a video obtained by The Daily Mail in February 2023. “But even now, if I were president, I’d be able to negotiate an end to this horrible and rapidly escalating war within 24 hours.”
