The German auto giant Volkswagen entered the Russian market in July this year with the Jetta car brand. This is reported by the newspaper Die Zeit.
Volkswagen said it “knows nothing” about the business in Russia.
“It does not seem very plausible that such a step is possible without Volkswagen’s knowledge,” the newspaper, quoted by UNIAN, writes.
The Jetta brand — converted analogues of cars of other Volkswagen brands — was originally created for the Chinese market. Jetta even has an official website in the Russian Federation — Jetta Motors Russia, registered to the Russian subsidiary of the partner company Volkswagen in China. However, the site stopped working after Die Zeit correspondents sent a request to a German company.
Recall the termination of deliveries to Volkswagen announced Russia a week after the start of the special operation on Ukraine.
As reported on March 13 with reference to Reuters EADaily, Volkswagen forecasts car sales growth of only 3% in 2024, which is significantly lower than last year’s levels, amid gloomy economic prospects and growing competition, the company said this Wednesday.
