Burj Khalifa lights up in Russian flag after Moscow Attack.
To extend its solidarity with Russia, the United Arab Emirates decided to light up the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa with the Russian flag. The skyscraper in Dubai is illuminated in the colors of the Russian flag on Sunday, a day after 143 people were killed at a concert hall near Moscow.
“The UAE stands in solidarity with Russia,” reads the inscription on the skyscraper.
Meanwhile, Dubai’s Media Office also issued a statement. “Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lights up with the colors of the Russia 🇷🇺 flag in expression of the UAE’s solidarity with the friendly nation of Russia and its people against terrorism.”
143 people were killed and over 100 wounded in what had been described as the worst terrorist attack that took place on Russia’s soil. The Russian Foreign Ministry asked for information on the attacks from the United States as the latter had warned its citizens of a preemptive strike.
The masked gunmen who stormed the popular concert venue carried guns and incendiary devices with them. Reports suggest that they were five in number. No arrests were made after the incident. The Foreign Ministry of Russia called it a ‘bloody’ attack on its soil. Russia’s President, who recently returned to office, was briefed about the terror strike. He did not make any official statement on the incident.
Islamic State terror outfit (previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS) has taken responsibility on its Telegram Channel for launching an attack on Russia’s capital, Moscow Friday night. Several Western media outlets and news agency Reuters have reported that the terror group’s affiliated news agency Amaq has published a brief statement about ISIS admitting that its “fighters” are behind the attack at Crocus City Hall, which led to the killings.
