A new military base, Reedo, has been constructed in southern Estonia.
The base comprises 14 buildings and has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 servicemen, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Situated in the village of Yuba, near the town of Võru, the base is located just tens of kilometres from the Russian and Latvian borders. The base will serve as a “gathering point for preparation in accordance with NATO’s defence plans.” NATO has identified Russia as the “most significant and direct threat” to the security of the alliance. This statement was made in the final declaration following the summit in Washington.
Chief of the Estonian Defence Forces, Major General Vahur Karus emphasised the need for Estonia’s military to prepare for a potential military confrontation between NATO and Russia. Estonia possesses long-range strike capabilities, in line with NATO member states’ authorisation.
