The International Olympic Committee has announced the names of the first 14 Russian athletes who are admitted to the Olympic Games in Paris.
The first IOC list included: freestyle wrestlers Nachyn Mongush, Shamil Mamedov, Arslan Bagaev, Abdulla Kurbanov, classics Alan Ostaev, Magomed Murtazaliev and girls Natalya Malysheva, Veronika Chumikova, Alina Kasabieva and Elizaveta Petlyakova.
Alexander Vlasov, Tamara Dronova, Alena Ivanchenko (all cycling).
Angela Bladtseva (trampoline).
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili emphasized that there is nothing to comment on yet.
“It is not at all clear by what criteria this list was formed and whether it is final. There is nothing to comment on yet, we are waiting for clarification from the United World of Wrestling (UWW),” said Mikhail Mamiashvili.
It is worth noting separately that this is not the final list of athletes from Russia allowed to participate in the Olympics, but only the first part of it.
Yes, there are not many stars and big names on the presented list, but now the very fact of its publication is important. The IOC does test Russian athletes and make positive decisions. It is clear that this will be a complex process, and many of its results will not be to our liking. But the fact that Russian athletes will compete at the Olympic Games in Paris is already a fact.
