A £21,000 Ukranian drone knocked out a £6 million Russian radar system in a big-blow to Vladimir Putin’s administration.
A video posted on social media shows the Polish-made Warmate drone operated by Ukrainians fly directly into a spinning dish of the Podlyot radar complex.
A second clip pictured another drone flying into the power station thought to be fuelling the radar system, reports MailOnilne.
The Ukraine Defense Ministry wrote: “Successful fire damage was inflicted on the antenna-feeder installation and the diesel station that fed the complex.”
The Ukraine military leadership said that the “Geese 9 Unit” was behind the attack.
They said the radar complex was a new piece of technology that had not been used before.
The Podlyot radar system is designed to spot targets and feed co-ordinates to the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft weapons.
Ukraine’s use of drones has been it most succesful offensive during the conflict with Russia.
It has been forced to stop using the US-provided Ambrams tanks because they cannot go undetected. Five of the tanks have been destroyed in just three months.
The tanks are now said to have been moved away from the frontline. It gave the Ukrainians a chance to reset their tactics against the Kremlin.
US Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman Adm. Christopher Grady said: “When you think about the way the fight has evolved, massed armour in an environment where unmanned aerial systems are ubiquitous can be at risk.”
